Few things are more important than the health of your children. Our Gillette dental office works with parents to give their children elite dental treatments. This can come through preventive treatments, restorative treatments, and even orthodontics.
Today I want to share 3 ways in which my dental office, Synergy Dental Center, can give your children great dental care.
- Regular cleanings and dental exams. Treating a child’s dental needs is much different than treating adults. At Synergy Dental Center, we offer modern pediatric dentistry services such as treating cavities, resolving thumb-sucking, and even providing guidance for teething babies. A pediatric dentist can see your children as soon as the first baby teeth erupt. During your child’s first dental visits, we’ll examine the development of the teeth and oral cavity. We’ll even “count the teeth.” Most of my dental team has children at home, so they know how to work with young patients and make them comfortable in the dental chair. If your child is comfortable with our dental services at a young age, they are more likely to develop a lifelong positive relationship with the dental office.
As your child gets older, you can help protect their teeth with fluoride treatments, dental sealants, nutritional counseling, and even custom athletic mouthguards. We also have a special orthodontic system for youngster than can be used instead of metal braces!
- Give your child straight teeth without braces. You may assume that everyone with straight, beautiful teeth has had braces. That’s not always the case. But still, today we see millions of children around the age of 12 or 13 wearing braces. I’m here to tell people that braces are not the only option. Today we use a treatment known as orthotropics. The theory behind orthotropics is that modern humans open-mouth posture is contributing to a longer face — which causes crooked teeth and possible breathing problems. Simply put, the jaw is growing down and back when it should be growing forward.
Orthotropics is a unique system that manipulates the growth of the jawbone to give your child straight, beautiful teeth and a better profile. Using different oral appliances, we’ll move the upper and lower jaw forward. The ideal candidate for orthotropics are between the ages of 4 and 10. Notice that this is earlier than kids generally start orthodontics.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARENTS: Your children must wear the oral appliances for the treatment to work.
- Find a better location for your tongue. Few dentists focus on finding a better location for the tongue. This area of dentistry is called myofunctional therapy, which is tongue training. Myofunctional therapy can be used for children and adults, and the therapy trains the tongue to be in a more appropriate position. The tongue should be forward and on the roof of the mouth. Habits like thumb-sucking and pacifiers can contribute to a poor tongue position. Myofunctional training has been found to reduce sleep apnea in children by 60 percent and adults by 40 percent.
At Synergy Dental Center, we work to give your children great dental care that will stand the test of time. You can call our office today at 307-622-1311.
