Orthodontics Options at Synergy Dental Center

If you’ve been looking into orthodontics for yourself or your child, you’re probably aware that braces have come a long way. They used to be almost exclusively for teenagers (along with a few brave grownups willing to face the world with a mouthful of metal).

Today, while traditional braces are an excellent option for many, we also have orthodontic treatments that are much less obvious and even invisible! No wonder adults are straightening their smiles in record numbers. There is really no downside: you get the flawless pearly whites you’ve always wanted, and you don’t have to feel like you’re back in a high school awkward stage to do it.

At Synergy Dental Center, we have a range of orthodontic therapies for patients of all ages: younger kids, teenagers, and yes, adults.

Orthotropics is a departure from the traditional view of orthodontics in children. Rather than holding off on any sort of therapy until the child is a teenager, we want to evaluate kids to see if they will benefit from orthotropic treatment around the age of 7.

Ideally, as a family dentist, we will have treated your child from toddlerhood and already addressed issues, like tongue-tie, that can cause problems later on.

When your child is around 7 to 9, his or her jawbone is still growing. By implementing treatments that correct the growth of the face, we can prevent the need for pulled teeth and more invasive orthodontic interventions later on.

When a teenager starts treatment, the goal is to force the teeth to fit into the face. Often, kids will need teeth taken out in order to make room. With orthotropics, we are guiding facial growth so that the jaw will be able to accommodate all of the teeth.

For kids with narrow jaws, correcting jaw position and facial growth also makes it less likely they will suffer from sleep apnea, TMJ disorder, and other problem down the road.

ClearCorrect and Invisalign

Both ClearCorrect and Invisalign are excellent options for people with mild to moderate orthodontic problems who want an invisible solution. Each product utilizes a series of clear, custom-crafted aligners that you change out at specified intervals. Gradually, the aligners move your teeth into the desired position.

ClearCorrect and Invisalign are useful for correcting many problems, including overcrowding, underbites, overbites, crossbites, and crooked teeth.

These systems have a number of advantages over traditional braces.

  • They have no metal parts. This means no “train tracks” across your teeth, plus they are more comfortable. No sharp wires or brackets to poke your soft tissues, no tightening required.
  • They are completely removable. You can take them out for meals and you can eat whatever you want. Plus, you take them out for cleaning your teeth. You don’t have to learn to brush around all the little parts of metal braces.
  • When you wear Invisalign or ClearCorrect aligners, they are virtually invisible. Most people won’t even notice them on your teeth.
  • While times will vary from patient to patient, treatment with ClearCorrect and Invisalign is often shorter than with traditional braces.

ClearCorrect and Invisalign may not be suitable for the most severe orthodontic problems. Plus, in order for them to work, the aligners must be worn about 22 hours every day. So these products may not be the best choice for people who will have trouble wearing them for the required amount of time.

Six Month Smiles

Six Month Smiles is, just as the name indicates, a system of braces that will correct your smile in about six months! Six Month Smiles treatment is effective for minor alignment problems, closing gaps, overcrowding, and more. The program does utilize brackets and wires that attach to the fronts of your teeth, but the brackets are constructed out of clear ceramic and the wires are tooth colored so they are hardly noticeable.

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are still a popular option, especially for teenagers. What’s great about them is that they work for even the most severe orthodontic issues. And today’s metal braces are much more refined than the ones of the past: smaller, more comfortable, less obvious on the teeth.

No matter your age, there is an orthodontic option appropriate for you. If you’d like to schedule a consultation for you or your child at Synergy Dental Center, fill out our convenient online form. Or you may call our Gillette, WY office directly at 307-682-3100.
