Teeth grinding is a very common problem, certainly in America. And teeth grinding is typically a symptom of another problem, so our goal at Synergy is to be able to find out what that problem is, for two reasons. One, if the problem is not addressed, then the teeth eventually wear away. And a bunch of dentistry is required to be able to fix that.
Two, to be able to figure out and find out what the symptom of the problem is is oftentimes more important than even the tooth problem itself. For a lot of people, sleeping problems or breathing problems are the cause of the problem. People are using their teeth to position their jaw in a position that allows them to breathe better. Consequently, you're causing the teeth to wear away. But indirectly, they're doing it to help them to breathe or assist themselves in breathing better.
So we can help people with that problem twofold, addressing their sleep problem. One, diagnosing their sleep problem, having them take an at-home sleep test, that's typically done one night in the comfort of their own home. Can tell us a lot of information about what the problem is, how severe it is. Then we can go over them about what their possible solutions are for that problem. Then after those things are addressed, then if we need to, if things are caught early enough, they can maybe use a guard to some degree. Or if not, then we can go in and fix their teeth while addressing the cause of the problem.
Following treatment, you will:
- Enjoy relief from pain.
- Keep pain from spreading from your jaw to elsewhere in your body.
- Regain normal use of your jaw and complete oral function.

If your TMJ pain is aggravated by teeth grinding (bruxism), Dr. Porter will fit you for a custom mouthguard. Wearing a mouthguard not only eases pressure on your jaw joint, it also protects your teeth from dental damage caused by grinding. Many people enjoy TMJ pain relief with nothing more than this easy, non-invasive option.
Determine the Cause of TMJ Disorder With TruDenta
TMD has a wide variety of causes, and it can be tough to pinpoint which ones are causing your TMJ pain. That’s why the TruDenta system is so useful. It uses sophisticated technology like a bite force analysis to determine the causes of your TMD. Once Dr. Porter knows what is contributing to your problem, he can create a customized treatment plan for you.
TruDenta therapy often involves a combination of treatments such as ultrasound therapy, massage, microcurrent electrostimulation, and force balancing. Synergy Dental Center is one of only about 300 facilities in the U.S. where you can be treated with TruDenta!
